Unsafe, unprofessional behaviour and nasty, gosippy nurses openly laughing and rolling their eyes. Want to do minimal job, if you have anything to ask them they talk about you calling you demanding and then they treat you even worse thereon. Absolute hellhole. No consideration for consent, privacy, dignity. We need staff in the NHS but we must have standards. The CQC, Healthwatch and the like need to do some work here.

Genera Critical Care is a busy area where the high risk of PTSD for families and patients is extremely high. There are some really kind and caring doctors and nurse but there are also a fair few who have clearly forgotten why they joined the NHS. Having spent some weeks on the unit as a family member we have sat back and watched carefully as consultants have strolled past patients beds almost as if they are invisible. Whilst I understand this is a complex and challenging area to work there is a real sense of lack of awareness of the fact that patients are real people and not just statistics or a number on a bed. Likewise there are some nurses who are so task focused and just want to get the job done without even stopping to think about the person laid in the bed- just because they are sedated/sleeping does that really mean you shouldn’t communicate and treat the patient like a piece of meat on a factory conveyor belt. There are some nurses who have clearly been on the job too long and should have moved on to a less challenging role as they do not have the ability to empathise and adopt a dictatorial role around the unit. It’s a real shame for the kind, caring compassionate staff who work hard to keep families and the patients updated and comfortable. The waiting room is awful, small pokey not enough private areas for families and very poor facilities, no water coolers and just an expensive vending machine that quite frankly you couldn’t afford when you’ve paid for a weeks worth of parking at the hospital. ITU is one of the hardest places to be in the hospital and it’s staff need to learn how to be more compassionate and understand patients and families journeys with empathy and kindness instead of task orientated care that is the exact opposite.

Ward 43 staff were rude .ignorant and didnt seem to care about the patient. The cleaner on the ward would barge in room even when curtains were closed . She had no respect for property belonging to the patient. Will never want to go there ever.

I attended the breast assessment centre following an abnormal screening mammogram. I arrived understandably anxious, but left convinced I was going to die soon. I was seen initially without my husband (he couldn't find a parking space) and told it was just routine questions. Having agreed to being seen unaccompanied, the overall tone of the interview was so relentlessly negative I asked the nurse "are you saying I have cancer?" She suggested I should consider cancelling any holidays I had booked in the next few weeks. She should have waited until my husband was with me. Staff got my name wrong three times, the biopsy room was blacked out, dark and stuffy, and I could not hear what was being said or staff names or designations. I had explained to the nurse during my initial interview that I used my middle forename, but staff in the biopsy room obviously had not read the form she completed. When the wrong forename was used for the second or third time, I politely said that I did not usually use that name the doctor said really abruptly "we need to call you Mrs B *** do we?" I asked if I had to have a biopsy that day and was told "if it was my breast I would be really worried" so I agreed. After the procedure which the ?doctor seemed to have difficulty with, I was then told that I would have to wait 4-6 weeks for results because of workload. I questioned the statement my breast condition was "very worrying" with the projected waiting time for results to be told "you won't lose anything by having to wait". The procedure itself was painful and I was only asked halfway through about having clips inserted. I do not feel that I was adequately informed or consented for the procedure and was bullied and scared into agreeing. My husband was left sobbing at the end of all this. I have had recent complex knee surgery (which I was not asked about even though I am still limping). Standing and moving is still challenging but I was too afraid to say anything. Patients with understandable anxiety need to be treated with some compassion and not just "processed". We have brains and feelings. I have never had a medical encounter that was handled so badly. I still have not got a complete biopsy result and it was suggested that I go back to the clinic for them to have another attempt. I have declined. The service is so fragmented. You have to go to Coventry for assessment but any pathology specimens go back to your "home" hospital" because I live in Solihull it was assumed that was where I wanted to be sent back to, I was not asked. I contacted the clinic breast nurses as instructed when my anxiety overwhelmed me and it took them 5 days to get back to me after an answerphone message. This is not adequate- my distress and that of my husband should have ben recognised at the time and appropriate support offered. They allowed us to leave in tears.

Atrocious experience in A&E after being brought in by ambulance and dumped in A&E. Waited on hard chair from 4am until 11am nxt day wen seen by Dr. 2 broken ribs after fall in kitchen. 75 year old widow. Nurses totally uncaring. 2 unisex toilets filthy. 14 hour waiting time appearing on board constantly. It was a hell hole. CQC try assessing on a Sunday night at 4am

My only criticism would be the food ( which was pretty poor) and the UHCW internet which again was very poor. Considering the mobile reception and 5g reception was nonexistent this needs to improve. Otherwise a great hospital and great service. Thank you

The maternity department is highly disorganized..i was asked to come in for an induction of labour only to be told the labour ward needs to break my waters since it did not break naturally and because of gestational diabetes the baby needs to be out before 41 Neeks..i have been waiting on the labour ward for more than 3 days now and just one more day to being 41 weeks but no one to break waters and no tangible response from the labour ward regarding the breaking of waters...only to be moved around between wards 24 and 25 because some other patients need the bed space. It's a very poor experience and would nor recommend to anyone, not even my enemy

I would like to say how happy I was with my treatment last Saturday. I was fast-tracked to the Dermatology department for what could have been a skin cancer, but turned out to be benign, and I was given cryotherapy. Everyone was very courteous and professional. On going on your website, I was surprised to see that it's much easier to make a complaint than to post a positive review! Rosemary Hill

Absolutely 100% excellent care and treatment at this hospital. Hospital waiting times are not long compared to other hospitals. Everyone extremely kind and helpful. If I need to go into hospital again in the future I want to go to Coventry Walsgrave even though its over 30 miles from home there is not a better hospital anywhere near that can equal the care you receive there.
